Robotics and mechatronics engineering combines mechanical engineering, computing and electronics to create functional smart products. You will acquire skills, knowledge and experience in electrical systems; mechanics; systems engineering; sensors and artificial perception; thermo-fluids and power systems; analogue electronics; robotics; control systems; and manufacturing.

In this specialisation, you will have the opportunity to also pursue a minor in an engineering discipline that complements robotics and mechatronics engineering.

Bachelor of Engineering (Honours): Continuous Professional Development (CPD)

CPD is a compulsory requirement for all Engineering students. You must complete 420 hours of continuous professional development in order to graduate with the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) qualification. It is a collection of all work including volunteer, personal and professional practice experiences outside the classroom which may be in the form of 12 weeks of relevant vacation employment or an equivalent combination of approved professional development and/or engineering employment taken throughout the duration of the course. You must submit a series of reflections on your experience with particular reference to the development of each of the key Engineers Australia Stage 1 competencies. You must complete the core robotics and mechatronics engineering units below, the four units from one of the streams below AND one unit selected from the Professional Practice domain suite (totalling 108 credit points).

Note: If you complete ECE2072 as a First Year breadth study unit, it will count towards your robotics and mechatronics engineering study. You must still fulfil the First Year engineering breadth study requirement by completing another breadth study unit.

Part D. Professional practice

Continuous professional development is a crucial part of meeting the Engineers Australia Stage 1 Competency Standard to be a Professional Engineer. You must enrol in ENG0001 in your final year and satisfy the professional development requirements if you are studying at the Clayton campus.

The Engineering Accreditation Council Malaysia have similar industrial training requirements. You must enrol in ENG0002 in the second semester of your third year and complete the industrial training required if you are studying at the Malaysia campus.

Part E. Elective study - Specialisation36 credit points

Students enrolled in the single degree Engineering36 credit points

To satisfy course requirements, you must take care to complete the electives at the required unit level.

In Year 2, you must complete 12 credit points of electives which can be Level 1, 2 or 3 units from Engineering or other faculties, subject to meeting the unit enrolment rules. Please ensure that you adhere to the course rules regarding Level 1 units and do not exceed the maximum 60 credit points allowed.

In Years 3 and 4, you must complete 24 credit points of electives which must be Level 3 or 4 units and from your engineering specialisation technical electives list. You may also enrol in up to two Level 5 units in your final year. If you intend to enrol in the Faculty's Master of Engineering post-graduate, completing Level 5 units that are core in the Master's course will reduce the total duration of your Master's study.

When choosing your electives, it is important to select only from your specialisation technical electives list. This ensures that your elective studies align with and contribute to the knowledge and skills required within your chosen field of study. However, there are additional options available to you:

Option 1: You may use your electives to complete a complementary engineering minor that is available with your specialisation. This allows you to further enhance your knowledge and skills in a specific area of engineering that complements your main field of study.

Option 2: You may consider engineering technical units listed across the engineering minors, subject to meeting the unit prerequisite or co-requisite rules. This will allow you to tailor your studies and broaden your knowledge within the field of engineering while still aligning with your chosen specialisation.

Note: To enrol in a Level 5 unit listed below, you must be in your final year and have a weighted average mark (WAM) of 65 or above at the conclusion of 3rd Year.
