In this unit you will be introduced to the key concepts and principles informing contemporary social work policy and practice in ageing through a lens of longevity and ongoing change.  Ageing is conceptualised in dynamic and innovative ways that reflect and encourage changing perceptions, theoretical understandings and possibilities of this transition phase.  You will explore the impact of ageing on clients from different cohorts including culture, gender, class, location and spirituality during the transition phases of ageing. You will also have the opportunity to examine the notion of risk as an underlying tension in social work practice in this field. The unit is run with a particular focus on anti-oppressive and anti-ageist practice. That is the reason for the adoption of the text-book with the same perspective.
