Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, you should be able to:
1.

Apply fundamental principles relating to the operating characteristics, design layout and friction and lubrication of various internal combustion engines.

2.

Assess the engine cycles and heat transfer in internal combustion engines.

3.

Evaluate various air and fuel delivery systems, in-cylinder flow processes and combustion.

4.

Analyse the thermochemistry of fuels, exhaust flow and emissions from internal combustion engines.

5.

Appraise the use of biodiesel blends, biofuels and other renewable fuels for internal combustion engines.

Assessment summary

Continuous assessment: 40%

Final assessment: 60%

This unit contains threshold hurdle requirements that you must achieve to be able to pass the unit. You are required to achieve at least 45% in the total continuous assessment component and at least 45% in the final assessment component. The consequence of not achieving a hurdle requirement is a fail grade (NH) and a maximum mark of 45 for the unit.
