The teaching and learning in this unit is focused around your experience of enacting an independent, sustained and cohesive research study of your own choosing and your submission of a 10,000 - 12,000 word report of that study. The teaching approaches are balanced between whole-group, face-to-face, interactive classes, smaller group meetings, and collaborative online activities (on Moodle). Each group will be led by two experienced researchers and a high performing PhD student. These three people constitute a form of supervision team, who will guide you through the development, planning, data generation, analysis, and writing dimensions of your project.

The minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 288 hours per teaching period comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study.

Usually, you can expect to engage with:

• 18 hours of scheduled learning delivered on campus via weekly/regular directed learning activities, 18 hours of scheduled learning delivered online via a combination of synchronous and asynchronous directed learning activities and the remaining hours to be allocated towards self-directed/independent study;
OR
• 18 hours of scheduled learning delivered synchronously online, and 18 hours of scheduled learning delivered online via a combination of synchronous and asynchronous directed learning activities and the remaining hours to be allocated towards self-directed/independent study^

Scheduled learning activities may include a combination of teacher directed learning, peer directed learning and online engagement.
