You will be provided with hands-on anatomy experience, which serves to improve understanding of structural relationships, provided within the world-class anatomical sciences and biomedical science laboratories

This unit investigates the structure of the human body and organ systems (gross anatomy and histology), including their developmental origins. You will gain a deep understanding of how the structure of the human body (both macro and microscopic) relates to its function and the development of specific organs and organ systems by building upon the microscopic knowledge foundations gained in DEV2011. You will learn how the primary tissue types can combine to form organs and help with execution of organ function. In studying this unit, you will learn anatomical terminology and principles, how organs work together in systems as well as how embryogenesis yields both typical and variant anatomical structures.

The assessment tasks and laboratories in the unit are designed to build employability skills which emphasise human ethics, investigative research skills, critical thinking and communication. You will be provided with hands-on anatomy experience, which serves to improve understanding of structural relationships, provided within the world-class anatomical sciences and biomedical science laboratories

General Anatomy (Eizenberg 2008 McGraw-Hill) Principles & Applications: This is your core textbook and it is highly recommended to have a permanent copy of this text. This will assist you in lectures and practical classes on Anatomical Principles.
Functional Histology (Kerr 2010 Mosby) - 2nd Edition (or 1st edition): This is a comprehensive guide to all things histology and has some excellent biological and functional concepts. VERY highly recommended for tissue biology.
Human Embryological and Developmental Biology (Carlson 2009 or latest edition Mosby): Good to remind you of important developmental biology concepts you learned in DEV2011 and will encounter in DEV2022.
