Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this unit, you should be able to:
1.

Outline and combine concepts of nanostructures and nanofabrication, including different synthesis and characterisation methods.

2.

Critically evaluate and discuss recent literature reports and case studies involving the application of nanomaterials to meet industry needs relevant to chemical and biological engineering processes and products.

3.

Demonstrate how to evaluate the performance of nanomaterials under laboratory conditions.

4.

Apply engineering methods to critically evaluate issues of feasibility and scalability as applied to nanomaterials and industrial applications.

5.

Communicate your understanding of nanotechnology and materials in both written and oral formats and in both individual and team submissions.

Assessment summary

Continuous assessment: 60%

Final assessment: 40%

This unit contains hurdle requirements that you must achieve to be able to pass the unit. You are required to achieve at least 45% in the total continuous assessment component and at least 45% in the final assessment component. The consequence of not achieving a hurdle requirement is a fail grade (NH) and a maximum mark of 45 for the unit.

Assessment

1 - In-semester tests
2 - IGNIT assignment and presentation
3 - Laboratory report/presentation
4 - Final assessment
