You will play the role of scientific investigators and prepare a research proposal to investigate a particular gene of interest. You will apply the concepts acquired from the lectures and workshops to design suitable experiments, write a research proposal and showcase your work in a mini symposium within Monash University Malaysia.

Active learning approach is adopted during lectures, workshops and laboratories. Information and concepts will be explained and complemented with case study, video and simulations. You are expected to participate in activities conducted during these live sessions. During the workshops, you are presented with a series of tasks which will further explore some of the major topics covered. This is an opportunity for you to gain practical understanding of the concepts discussed in the lecture/laboratories.

Individual submission

You will have 24 hours to complete these open-book questions similar to those used in the final examination from the previous year.

This assessment requires you to first write a short, annotated bibliography. After which you will complete some preliminary reading and synthesis the literature on your own. Once these are all done, you will begin to collaborate in groups to plan the research methodology.

You will work in your respective group to plan, discuss and write a research proposal to address the research topic.

Two lab summaries (short answer questions) will be assessed.

You will present your expected results via poster presentation and discuss your research during a conference-like event.
