You will be introduced to the principles of research design, research ethics, and research methods and techniques of data collection and analysis appropriate to Data Science research generally. These skills will then be applied to the development, and written and oral communication of a research proposal.

Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this unit, you should be able to:
1.
Review and critique research literature and findings from a wide range of sources in data science;
2.
Communicate research findings orally and in writing;
3.
Explain the technical, ethical and professional issues that may arise in data science research and demonstrate them in practice;
4.
Evaluate, select and justify research methods and techniques appropriate to particular projects in data science;
5.
Integrate research skills into effective team and project work;
6.
Develop a research project and produce a proposal explaining the project and its design.
