The Film and Screen Studies program focuses on critical approaches to the study of film, television, and digital screen cultures, including streaming platforms.

The program emphasises a range of critical, theoretical, and practical methods that will help you understand a broad range of screen cultures. These include questions of ideology, representation and politics (for example, of diversity, gender, race, and sexuality), from historical and contemporary perspectives. You will explore film and screen texts from different national and international contexts, including Asia, Europe, Australia, and the United States, and examine popular genres, documentary, and online and digital screen media. You will learn about technologies, industries and institutions, including how film festivals and streaming platforms produce, distribute, and exhibit screen media.

By studying Film and Screen Studies you will have a better understanding of the important role screen cultures play in our everyday lives, and you will be equipped with the skills to confidently participate across film, television, and online screen industries.
