Data analysis exercises in the laboratory classes will allow you to problem solve experimental results, in particular unexpected results.

Case studies etc will also be introduced in the workshops to allow you to further develop your problem-solving skills.    

Face-to-face laboratory classes enable you to develop hands on biochemistry and molecular biology techniques pertaining to organelle structure and function in health and disease.

The laboratory classes also allows you to problem solve, critically analyse scientific reviews, as well as develop communication skills.

You will work in small groups of 2-3 students within a group of 12 students throughout the semester. This approach allows you to discuss and problem solve amongst yourselves.

Weekly lectures will be presented on Moodle as short videos providing you with core content. Recommended self-directed additional reading material will be included. Moodle-based quizzes are incorporated after each lecture theme to ensure that lecture content is well understood.

In-semester practical assessments.

Where you fail the hurdle but would have otherwise achieved a mark of 45 or above you will be awarded a mark of 45 and an NH (hurdle fail) for the unit.
Where you fail the hurdle and would also have failed the unit with a mark of 44 or below, you will be awarded your mark and an N (fail) grade for the unit.

A 1500-word essay based on the analysis of a research article that is to be completed individually.

A scheduled e-exam that covers all unit content.
