In this unit, you will explore the concepts of environmental and sustainability learning through place-based, experiential pedagogical approaches that transcend subject areas. You will undertake and analyse environmental and sustainability concepts and practices as facilitated in educational experiences. You will develop an appreciation of your local environment, culture and communities through exploring how these can be integrated into teaching and learning. You will delve into cultural, social, economic, ecological and political influences that impact attitudes and actions towards environmental and sustainability education. Local environmental issues will be explored throughout the unit as a way of informing global perspectives, including the role the sustainable development goals play in achieving sustainable futures. You will develop theoretical and pedagogical knowledge of how to develop holistic learning experiences for environment and sustainability education and the range of curricular opportunities available to do so.
