The unit focuses on the practice and enactment of pedagogical strategies that lead to effective outcomes for learners. You will examine exploratory pedagogies through to direct instruction to develop a set of defining characteristics for a range of teaching approaches. In addition, the theory and research underpinning approaches to teaching and learning is explored as justifications for teaching approaches are developed. You will plan for, practice and critique pedagogical strategies, such as explicit teaching, collaborative learning and metacognitive approaches. Approaches and techniques to positively and effectively manage teaching and learning contexts will also be explored. The unit itself models different pedagogical approaches and draws on a range of case-study and scenario-based examples that demonstrate effective approaches to teaching and learning.
