Trimester A, Trimester B, and Trimester C City location offerings for this unit are only available for Bachelor of International Business and associated double degree students.

To be successful in this unit, background knowledge and application of maths is required at the equivalent of VCE Year 12 level.  You may have satisfied this by completing relevant prerequisite unit/s, or you have covered relevant topics in your final years of secondary study.  You should self-assess your maths competency prior to enrolling in this unit.

Active learning is defined as maximising student engagement with curriculum and staff, to produce the best learning outcomes for students. In-class, this is achieved through the use of online polling with participation assessment. From student responses and live feedback via chat to polling questions, educators interact with all students (both in-person and online) to reinforce, apply and bespokely tailor the lesson to the audience on hand. Out of class, student engagement is maintained through weekly quizzes, where students are encouraged to do homework together or under the guidance of staff in consultation. Finally, to maximise interaction with staff who act as positive role-models of professional practice for students, all curriculum questions are answered only face-to-face in-person or over video conferencing. Having as much two-way conversations with students as possible allows staff to best guide, mentor and show students that we care about their education. 

This unit contains a hurdle requirement that you must achieve to be able to pass the unit. The consequence of not achieving a hurdle requirement is a fail grade (NH) and a maximum mark of 45 for the unit.

Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of scheduled learning activities and independent study. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities. The unit requires on average three/four hours of scheduled activities per week. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher directed learning, peer directed learning and online engagement.

In BFF1001, you will be solving financial math using the financial functions of the HP10Bll+ financial calculator. While the Business School also permits the use of the Casio FX82 scientific calculator, it does not contain financial functions required for BFF1001.

The only Faculty approved calculators permitted in tests and examinations for all Australian campuses and locations is the HP10bII+ or Casio FX82 (any suffix).
